Chiropractic Care

Chiropractic has a unique place in health care as we are able to utilize a variety of natural health services for our patients rather than limiting ourselves to a specific treatment protocol. One of the services we offer is spinal manipulative therapy, which is what people commonly refer to as a chiropractic adjustment. An “adjustment” is a fast, yet gentle, thrusting movement performed to areas of the spine that are fixated, painful, in spasm or just not moving properly.

By restoring proper motion, the joints can move freely through their full, natural range thus relieving unwanted stress on the surrounding soft tissue and bony structures. This is a very effective method for reducing pain and stiffness, improving overall function and athletic abilities, as well as to help prevent future problems during the aging process.

Functional Nutrition

Functional nutrition addresses the underlying causes of disease and imbalances.  We shift the traditional disease-centered focus to a patient-centered focus, addressing the whole person not just an isolated set of symptoms. The word function is aligned with the understanding that function is a process, which can move forwards or backwards.  Disease is an endpoint.  The unique interaction of an individuals genome, environment, diet, and lifestyle all contribute to overall function leading to wellness or disease.

We are concerned less about disease and more about the processes that result in your dysfunction.  We spend time listening to a through history, reviewing past records, and look for interactions between genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors that may be contributing to chronic disease and influence your long-term health. There are 7 concepts through functional nutrition that will help support and guide you forwards toward wellness and away from disease.

The concept of mindset being an individual’s self theory.  Simply a set of thoughts that you believe to be true about yourself and how to change those negative self limiting beliefs into positive empowering beliefs that will help change your life

Chiropractic Care

Chiropractic are focuses on the relationship between the nervous system and the spine. We assess and treat Biomechanical and structural derangement of the spine and relate that to how it can affect the nervous system. For many conditions, chiropractic care can restore the structural integrity of the spine and reduce pressure on the sensitive neurological tissue, improving overall health. The treatment concept of chiropractic is to re-establish normal spinal mobility, which in turn alleviates the irritation to the spinal nerves and/or re-estabilishes altered reflexes. Dr. Karin will take a full and thorough history, perform an exam using various tools, and come up with a diagnosis and customized treatment plan that will fit your needs.

Including exercise in our day to day habits and routines

Exercise is something we all need to include in our day to day habits and routines. I could list one hundred different reasons why we need to include exercise in our daily routine, however I will not go into a long drawn out list in this article. Generally speaking daily exercise benefits us in many ways including increased blood flow, lymph flow, injury prevention, and improved cognitive function. However, the way certain types of exercise benefits brain health have been particularly intriguing to me the past few years. This gives me another “why” behind making sure I exercise daily, and making sure I am performing the most beneficial type of exercise to enhance my brain health.

How Alterations In Our Lifestyle can Improve The Gut-Brain Connection

Our gut can be considered like a huge factory. 2/3rds of our immune system is embedded in our gastrointestinal tract. Our gut has more bacteria than there are cells in our entire body, and our gut contains more neurotransmitters than our brain. Our brain contains about 100 billion neurons and our gut contains approximately 500 million neurons, which all communicate with the brain via the nervous system. One of the biggest nerves that supplies this communication is the vagus nerve. This nerve sends signals in both directions. This is how stress signals from the brain send signals down to your gut influencing or even acting as the root cause of gastrointestinal problems.

Tapping Into Your Parasympathetic System, Reduce Pain, and Increase Mobility through Breathing

The autonomic nervous system is the part of the nervous system that controls our internal organs such as our blood vessels, stomach, intestine, liver, kidneys, bladder, genitals, lungs, pupils, heart, and our sweat, salivary, and digestive glands. The autonomic nervous system has two main divisions call the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system.
